10/11/17: This post was updated to remove the Avalon Bay air fryer which is no longer available on Amazon. It was replaced with the Power Air Fryer XL 5.3 qt model instead which has an average customer rating of 4 stars.
Honestly…. I’m not exaggerating – this appliance has helped our weight loss efforts and literally changed our lives – for the better.
I had never even heard of an air fryer before until I was on a bariatric website one day which had some recipes that I wanted to try and required one.
I liked the idea of getting the taste of fried foods without actually frying them in oil. So, in my usual shopping fashion, I hopped on Amazon and started looking at them and reading reviews on various brands.
You’ll quickly learn that I am totally hooked on Amazon, and especially Amazon Prime. I no longer can stand waiting more than 2 days for anything to ship to me 🙂 And here it was a Sunday morning and I had decided on an air fryer that Amazon promised me would be delivered to me by 8 pm that evening. I mean how could I resist that? And guess what – they actually delivered it at 7 pm and I think it was 2 or 3 am when I ordered it. Gotta love Amazon!
So what do we cook in it? The # one thing is chicken wings – my husband makes them almost every day; sometimes twice a day. I love making pork chops in it. There is no added fat. I literally just throw some spices on them and cook – and they are crispy on the outside and tender and juicy on the inside in about 20 minutes. It’s a ‘set it and forget it’ appliance for the most part. But the fact is that you can make anything that you make in the oven – I’ve made corn muffins in it; meatloaf, meatballs, corn on the cob, roasted carrots, awesome french fries and the list goes on…. my husband likes to make salmon in it (I’m not a fish eater so he has it all to himself).
I plan on making some videos to show you just what I mean. This appliance has definitely saved us money over going out to eat or stopping for fast food. It’s just as fast; if not much faster, to make delicious food in it – and without any added salt or fat.
I’ve read on forums where there’s a good amount of people out there who either already bought one or received one as a gift and it’s sitting on a shelf gathering dust because they didn’t know what to do with it. So, if that’s you, ‘go for it’…. dust it off and give it a try.
The model I bought on (by Della) is no longer available at Amazon. I paid $99 for it. Mine holds 3.7 qts which is perfect for a family of two like we have as ’empty nesters’. If you have more than two people you probably want to go with a larger size that holds 5+ qts.
I was just on Amazon to see a sampling of what’s available and is highly rated (as of this writing). I included three links below for you to check these out if you are interested.
This is ‘hearsay’, or maybe more accurately ‘readsay’, but I read where virtually all air fryers are manufactured by the same company but just branded differently. Considering that the 3rd one in the list is by GoWise and it looks EXACTLY like the Della I bought, I’m inclined to believe that’s true. Also I was able to buy a copper Power XL basket that was on sale and it fit my Della perfectly.

The first one (GoWise GW22621) is labeled as a current ‘BESTSELLER’ on Amazon. It holds 3.7 qts and is a newer model than what I have. If I were buying one today, that’s the one I would buy.
If you need a bigger size, the Power Air Fryer XL (second one) holds 5.3 qts and is highly rated on Amazon (4 stars as of this writing). I think this model may be available in one of the warehouse clubs – Costco, etc.
I also included the third one (GoWise GW22611) since it looks EXACTLY like the Della model that I have which they no longer stock. Keep in mind it holds 3.7 qts so it’s the smaller model and right now it’s actually a bit more expensive then the newer model (but I’ve seen the price go as low as $59 so be sure to continue to keep view the latest prices here if you are interested but not ready to buy yet. These links pull the prices ‘live’ and I’ve noticed they change almost daily ).
So my advice is, if you are interested, then Read the Reviews and order one. Like I mentioned, I actually got mine the same day and Amazon has a very simple and convenient return policy, with free shipping, if you don’t end up liking it. If you want to see them physically and/or take one home today, go to a local store and take a look at whatever models they have in stock (most local stores only have one or two models on display) I’ve read where some people got theirs at Kohls when they were able to take advantage of their 20-30% off sales that they run pretty regularly.
You can also do a search on YouTube for air fryer recipes and you will see that there are thousands of fans just like me. In fact, I have to give a shout out to Doug whose YouTube channel is COOKINGWITHDOUG. I watched a lot of his videos and tried some of his recipes. He’s got thousands of followers – he even has a Facebook Air Fryer group too. Here’s a link to one of his videos for making pork chops — COOKINGWITH DOUG – Air Fryer Pork Chops This is the first thing I made in mine and I was hooked. Take a look at his videos and you’ll see what I mean.
Bon Appetit…. Enjoy!
