Check out my latest kitchen gadget for making a delicious chopped salad…

It’s not only a quick and easy way to make salad but it’s honestly kind of fun to use.

I know that a lot of weight loss surgery patients have difficulty eating salads.  My difficulty wasn’t based on the foods themselves but mainly on the size of the salad pieces.  Restaurants typically don’t cut veggies too fine. The bags that you buy in the store are also usually larger chunks so I always ended up doing a bunch of chopping afterwards to get it to the right consistency so I could eat it.

I started buying bags of pre-made chopped salads for home – Dole and Walmart brands. There are a few flavors (I liked the Southwest Chopped Salad) and they were quite good but became a little expensive after a while; especially considering I always threw out the dressing packet since I didn’t care for it.

So searching on Amazon I came across this inexpensive gadget and decided to give it a try.  While I realize some of you may be thinking ‘just how lazy can she be?’ 🙂 it really has helped me eat salads more often.

You can look at the info in the Amazon link for more product info but I’m pasting photos below from my actual experience using it the other day.

First I gathered up my salad ingredients… the bowl is not huge but makes enough for at least 3-4 people (depending on serving size of course):

I did do a little chopping so that the ingredients would fit in the bowl.

You then turn the bowl over onto the plate piece and move  your knife through the slots in the bowl one at a time.  After you go in one direction you lift the top and rotate 1/4 turn (there are little notches on the plate to follow) and slice through again.  In order for me to get the veggies the size I wanted I then rotated another two times and sliced through each time. This is the somewhat fun part 🙂

Flip it back over and take off the lid.  You can see the results in the slotted bowl below.

Empty the bowl contents into a container of your choice and enjoy!  I usually get 4 servings from this – I add in sunflower seeds and cheddar cheese afterwards and then top with dressing made from Greek yogurt and a package of ranch dressing.

Of course there’s no limit to all the kinds of veggies you can add, as well as nuts, etc .  Whatever suits your taste.
